Bio

I have been an Optometrist for twenty-four years. Before joining Family Vision Health Center, I practiced in the Holmdel and Tinton Falls areas for over ten years, associated with Dr. Anthony Micale, M.D. I graduated from the State University of New York College of Optometry in 1988, with an internship in visual therapy. My background and degree in Education give me a special ability to work with children and adolescents. As an Optometrist my goal is to provide broad based, full scope vision care, including comprehensive vision and eye health testing; detailed tests and treatment of eye diseases and disorders; visual-perceptual and binocular evaluations; consultation for laser refraction procedures; and the latest in healthy, comfortable contact lenses. I am dedicated to providing quality care with patience and compassion.

Optical Dispensary

Our Optical Dispensary carries a large selection of high quality designer frames, accessories and sunglasses. We have an assortment of classic and high fashion frames for men women and children. Our children's section has frames within their arms' reach to simplify frame selection. All of our products are competitively priced, with several pricing packages available.

We have an excellent selection of brand name moderately priced sunglasses, which may be available in your prescription. Safety eyewear, sport goggles and other accessories are available. Let our knowledgeable and caring staff guide you through the selection process, from choosing and fitting a frame that is cosmetically attractive and comfortable through choosing the right lenses that meet your visual needs.

Your prescription is precision crafted, checked for accuracy and then fitted and adjusted for maximum comfort and performance.

Tinting, scratch-resistant coating, anti-glare coating, Transitions®, high refractive index and high-impact resistant polycarbonate safety lenses are available as well. We supply the latest advances in no-line progressive bifocals and will accurately measure and fit them to facilitate your adaptation.

The Doctor is available to troubleshoot any problems you may encounter with your glasses. We offer our patients free adjustment on their eyeglass frames even if they were purchased elsewhere.

Dr. Carotenuto's eye care services in Colts Neck start with a comprehensive eye exam. A comprehensive examination consists of over thirty different tests and can vary considerably depending on the age and visual needs of the patient. We use the most advanced equipment available to provide this thorough assessment.

A comprehensive assessment begins with a determination of the patient's visual needs and concerns. This is followed by a complete medical, ocular and family history.

Current visual status is determined by measuring the level of vision (visual acuity). This is frequently performed with existing spectacles or contact lenses.

Using state-of-the-art technology at our Colts Neck office, an external eye examination is performed to evaluate the movements of the eye, the response of the pupils to light as well as health of the eyelids and surrounding tissues.

Internal examination is performed to assess ocular health. Most patients will be dilated to some degree for this testing. This allows evaluation for various eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Many systemic health problems such as Diabetes potentially have ocular side effects that can permanently impair vision.

Refractive assessment is performed to determine the spectacle or contact lens prescription. Many patients have visual demands related to their occupations and hobbies that require special prescriptions.

All patients over the age of eighteen should be screened for Glaucoma. This test is painless and is especially important in any patient who exhibits risk factors including other family member(s) with Glaucoma.
